Open World Poker - New Poker Championship in Las Vegas
The popular investor’s website Gaming Investing has announced that “Binion’s American Poker Player Championship” is to be held in Las Vegas in 2006.
“Jack Binion started the World Series of Poker back in 1970, and it has grown into the most recognized poker tournament in the world,” said Kurt Stine, publisher of the Gaming Investing site. “His father, Benny Binion, was famous for taking the largest betting action in Las Vegas, and now the ‘Binion’ group is continuing their legendary way of leadership by introducing the 2006 American Poker Player Championship to be held at Binion’s in downtown Las Vegas.”
Over 14,000 poker players entered the World Series of Poker (WSOP) this year, exceeding last years total, and tournament organizers predict the total number of registrations will reach 23,000 by the time the main event begins on July 7th. ESPN’s coverage of the WSOP draws ratings comparable to NBA Basketball, and is a clear indicator to the incredible surge in the popularity of poker. Industry estimates state that 50 to 60 million Americans play online poker at least once a month.
